Limón Verde (also Limon Verde) is a name used by seed hunters and seed sellers for a Colombian marijuana. Seed hunters of the company Green House Seed Co. went looking for a plant of that name on a trip to Colombia in 2013, and the magazine VICE, which travelled with them, wrote that they found it in the region of Cauca.[1]
The 2013 trip
Writing for VICE, the journalist Krishna Andavolu travelled with Arjan Roskam and Franco Loja of Green House Seed Co. on their search for three marijuanas that, in Andavolu's words, had stayed "genéticamente puras durante décadas" (genetically pure for decades) and had "nombres poéticos, casi míticos" (poetic, almost mythic names): Limón Verde, Oro de Colombia and Punta Roja. A photograph in the article shows Loja inspecting "una extraña especie de marihuana llamada Limón Verde" (a strange kind of marijuana called Limón Verde) in the region of Cauca. Andavolu wrote that the team found all three.[1] VICE also filmed the trip; in the film Andavolu says that the team had come to hunt for "three legendary landraces-- Limon Verde, Punta Roja, and Colombian Gold".[2]
The magazine Cannabis Now, retelling the company's own film of the trip in 2015, wrote that the team found Limón Verde "almost immediately, at a peasant's home right on the road", in territory held by the FARC guerrilla near Cali.[3] In the company's footage of the trip, released in 2021, a member of the team says in the film's subtitles: "The verde limon that is called Mango Biche here".[4]
Seed sold under the name
The seller Black Tuna says that it worked from seed lots of mango biche, punto rojo and limón verde kept since they were grown in the mountains of Matitas, in La Guajira.[5] The Landrace Team says that some collectors call its Corinto line "Limon Verde".[6]
