Leistner 3278 is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa collected at Pretoria in Gauteng, South Africa, on 15 March 1968 by O. A. Leistner. The KwaZulu-Natal Herbarium (NH) holds the sheet as NH0069354-0.[1][2] The Compton Herbarium (NBG) holds two further sheets and the Naturhistorisches Museum Wien a fourth, which it dates a day earlier.
Collection and locality
Durban's entry gives the date as 15 March 1968 and the locality as Transvaal. Pretoria. Glass House: Vredehuis Garden, Botanical Research Institute. The plant was growing under glass at the institute that ran the National Herbarium, so this is an institutional growing rather than a field gathering.[1]
Four sheets, and a date that differs by a day
The Compton Herbarium holds NBG1533370-0 and NBG1533369-0, both dated 15 March 1968 with the same locality. The Naturhistorisches Museum in Vienna holds 1990-0005502, with the locality cultivated. Transvaal, Pretoria, Glass House, Vredehuis Garden, Botanical Research Institute and the date 14 March 1968, determined by Leistner himself. The four catalogues agree on everything except the day.[2]
Specimen and identification
Durban and both Compton sheets file the plant as Cannabis sativa L. var. sativa; Vienna files it as Cannabis sativa L.[1][2]
