Lansdell 862 is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa collected at Groenkloof in Gauteng, South Africa, on 11 April 1920 by K. A. Lansdell. The National Herbarium (PRE) holds the sheet as PRE0372426-0.[1]
Collection and locality
The database gives the locality as PRETORIA; GROENKLOOF and the date as 11 April 1920. PRE stores its older localities in upper case, with the parts separated by semicolons. The locality field carries the place in ordinary case; the article quotes the string as the database holds it.[1]
A second sheet, dated 1973
The KwaZulu-Natal Herbarium (NH) holds a sheet under the same collector and the same number, NH0050384-0, at Groenkloof Pretoria., and dates it 1973. Fifty-three years separate the two dates for one collector's number 862. The 1973 date is far more likely to be the year the sheet was registered at Durban than the year the plant was gathered, but the catalogues do not say so and neither date is corrected here.[1]

Both sheets are filed as Cannabis sativa L. var. sativa.[1]
