Hilliard 8901 is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa, determined as var. indica collected at Thamathu Cave in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, on 3 February 1976 by O. M. Hilliard. The Bews Herbarium (NU) holds the sheet as NU0023216-0.[1][2] It was gathered with B. L. Burtt at a rock shelter in the southern Drakensberg at 7,500 ft, which makes it the highest gathering in the batch.
The label
The sheet carries a printed card headed FLORA OF SOUTHERN AFRICA, with Natal written on the region line, the determination Cannabis sativa L., and the locality Underberg distr., Bushman's Nek, Thamathu Cave, 7500 ft. The collection line reads O.M. Hilliard / B.L. Burtt, Date 3 ii 1976, No. 8901. A pencilled 1973/1 sits above it and the University of Natal Herbarium stamp beside it.[2]
