Gubanov 3857 is a herbarium accession of cannabis gathered on dry slopes on the right bank of the Orkhon, about 30 km south of the town of Bulgan in Bulgan Province, northern Mongolia, on 23 August 1980 by I. A. Gubanov, who determined it as Cannabis ruderalis Janisch. The Moscow University Herbarium holds two sheets of the gathering, MW0175108[1] and MW0175110.[2]
Collection and locality
Both sheets carry the same typed label: Северная Монголия, 30 км на юг от г. Булган. Сухие склоны по правому берегу р. Орхон в 6 км выше пос. Орхон. (Northern Mongolia, 30 km south of the town of Bulgan; dry slopes on the right bank of the river Orkhon, 6 km above the settlement of Orkhon), dated 23.VIII-1980 and numbered № 3857, with the name И. А. Губанов.[3][4] The catalogue gives the collector and the date for each sheet, with no number or locality.[1][2] The settlement of Orkhon is the centre of Orkhon sum, in Bulgan Province.
Specimen and identification
One sheet carries two leafy, flowering stems, one pulled up with its roots; the other two crossed, branched stems with palmate leaves.[3][4] A slip on each reads Cannabis ruderalis Janisch., 1980, Determ. I. A. Gubanov; the catalogue files both sheets as Cannabis sativa L.[3][1]
