Masisi-Rutshuru 2024 is a seed accession of the cannabis line that East Africa Genes sells as a long-flowering sativa from the Masisi-Rutshuru region of North Kivu, in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. The seller found it on a trip to Goma in 2024 and calls it a landrace.[1][2]

Geography

The catalogue says communities living near the thick forests on the Congo–Uganda border grow the line, which is known locally in the Masisi-Rutshuru region.[1] After the Goma trip the seller reported that a tour guide had told it that the cannabis in Goma comes from Masisi, six hours west of the city.[2] Upstate, one of the forum members who paid for the trip, wrote that the seeds were obtained on an island of refugees near Virunga National Park.[3]

History

The trip to Goma, for which the seller booked a flight for 30 August 2024, was paid for by members of the Overgrow forum. The seller reported two lines from it: a Masisi sativa, of 130 seeds, and a Rutshuru sativa.[4][3][5][6] Because the Masisi seed was too little to share out, the seller wrote, Upstate agreed to reproduce it for the donors.[7] The catalogue's photographs are captioned Black African Magic, and says the seller first met the variety on the trip to Goma.[1] A 2026 blog post treats Masisi and Rutshuru as two sativas.[8]

Cultivation Details

The catalogue says the line matures over several months, but that farmers often harvest it early because of demand.[1] The 2026 post gives six months outdoors for the Rutshuru, often cut in the fifth month.[8]

Aroma

The catalogue describes a distinct woody aroma; in the 2026 post the Masisi tastes woody and spicy.[1][8]

Effects

The seller says locals describe a fast-onset, energetic and trippy effect.[1]
