Chung 83105 is a herbarium accession of a male plant of Cannabis sativa collected from cultivation on a slope around Jiangwan village, Shatang, near Liuzhou, in Guangxi, China, in September 1940 by 钟济新 (Chung Chi-hsin). The Guangxi Institute of Botany in Guilin holds the sheet as IBK00130892[1].
Collection and locality
The sheet carries a later collecting form of the Guangxi branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences' South China Institute of Botany (中國科学院華南植物研究所廣西分所), typed in English with the place written by hand. It gives a collector's name stamped in pale ink, read as 钟济新; the number 83105; the year 1940, its third figure overtyped, and the month, September, with the day blank; the place 柳州沙塘江湾村一带 (around Jiangwan village, Shatang, Liuzhou); the habitat culture in slope; the habit herbaceous; and notes on the bark, the palmatisect leaves, the five-parted male flowers and their yellow anthers. A later typed label of the branch repeats the collector and the number, with its specimen number 59299; a box stamp reads 廣西省 Kwangsi, and a tag tied to the stem repeats the number.[2] The catalogue gives the collector, the number, the year 1940 and Guangxi.[1]
Specimen and identification
The sheet carries a leafy stem with palmate leaves of long, serrate leaflets and a male flowering top. The form names the plant Cannabis sativa L., and the label, typed Cannalis sativa L.; neither names a determiner.[2] The Chinese Virtual Herbarium publishes its sheet images under a non-commercial, no-derivatives licence (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0); they are read and cited here, not reproduced.
