Anon. s.n., Tokyo is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa cultivated at Tokyo, Japan, on the printed label of the instrument and specimen department of the Tokyo bookseller and publisher Sanseidō, with the Japanese name asa. Its date gives the 27th year of an era it does not name, and cannot be fixed. The Yunnan University Herbarium in Kunming holds the sheet as YUKU 02032350.[1]
Collection and locality
The label is a printed form whose foot reads 東京 三省堂器械標本部製作 (made by the instrument and specimen department of Sanseidō, Tokyo). It gives the family as 桑 科, with Moraceae. struck through and Cannabinaceae written above in ink, the name Cannabis sativa L. and the Japanese name ア サ (asa), and the place 產地 東京 (locality Tokyo) with cult. added in ink. Its date line gives 廿七年 (the 27th year) and a month and day, with no era name; the number line is blank.[2] The 27th year is 1894 in the Meiji era and 1952 in the Shōwa era. The catalogue gives Tokyo and no date, and files the sheet under the genus Cannabis.[1] GBIF gives the same.[3] The same herbarium holds a second undated sheet from Tokyo, Anon. s.n., Tokyo (s.d.), 2151C0001C02032370.
Specimen and identification
The sheet carries one stem, forked at its base, with a large palmate leaf of long, toothed leaflets and a smaller leaf above it.[2] The label names it Cannabis sativa L. without a determiner's name; the family on it was changed by hand from Moraceae to Cannabinaceae. A round blue stamp of the herbarium of the biology department of Yunnan University, 云南大学生物系 植物标本室, is at the lower left.[2]
