Anon. 92561 is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa collected in the mountains of Guangxi (then Kwangsi), China, on 13 August 1939. Its oldest label gives Kwangsi University as the collector and names no person. The Guangxi Institute of Botany in Guilin holds two sheets, IBK00130888[1] and IBK00130887[2].
Collection and locality
IBK00130888 carries a typed label of the Division of Agricultural and Forest Botany of the Agricultural Research Institute, Graduate School, National Sun Yat-sen University (國立中山大學研究院農科研究所農林植物學部). It gives the collecting number 92561, the collector Kwangsi Univ. and the name Cannabis sativa Linn., with (C. gigantea Hort., Hemp.), determined by Y. Tsiang; a later typed label of the Guangxi Institute of Botany repeats them, with its specimen number 93694.[3] Each sheet also carries a later collecting form, filled in by hand with the same entries: a collector's name stamped in pale ink, the number 92561, the date 28年8月13日, a place in cursive characters, the habitat 山間 (in the mountains), a woody herb, dark green toothed leaves and yellow-green flowers. A box stamp on each reads 廣西省 Kwangsi, and a tag tied to each stem repeats the number.[3][4] The catalogue gives 陈立卿 as the collector of both sheets, the number, the year 1939 and Guangxi.[1][2]
Specimen and identification
IBK00130888 carries a large branched stem with palmate leaves of five to seven narrow, serrate leaflets and many small flower clusters in the upper leaf axils, and IBK00130887 a tall leafy stem with a loose flowering top; each sheet has a packet holding a loose leaf and flowering tip. The Sun Yat-sen University label names the plant Cannabis sativa Linn., determined by Y. Tsiang.[3][4] The Chinese Virtual Herbarium publishes its sheet images under a non-commercial, no-derivatives licence (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0); they are read and cited here, not reproduced.
