Yon s.n., Salme is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa collected at Salme, in Nuwakot District of central Nepal, at 2,000 metres on 19 May 1974 by Bernard Yon. Its label records the plant as cultivated on terraces and gives its Nepali name as Ganja. The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh holds the sheet as E00751457.[1][2]
Collection and locality
The sheet carries a printed Flore Nepal form of the Université de Grenoble and Laboratoire de Botanique, filled in by hand. It gives the place as Lieu : Salme, the latitude and longitude as 28°2 and 85°5, the altitude as 2000m and the date as 19/05/74, and names the collector as B. Yon.[3] The catalogue gives the collector as Bernard Yon and the date as 19 May 1974, with no locality.[1] The infobox stores the label's position read as 28°02′ N, 85°05′ E.
Cultivation and name
The label's observations read Cultivé en terrasses., cultivated on terraces, and Nepali : Ganja.[3] Neither note is in the catalogue. Seven years later Jacques Wiart collected Wiart 582 (1981) in the same village, from plants kept in the winter cereal fields.
Specimen and identification
The label files the plant under Urticaceae and names it Cannabis sativa L.; the catalogue places it in Cannabaceae.[3][1] Edinburgh publishes the sheet image under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike licence.[3]
