Ward 6086 is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa collected at Umbilo in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, on 20 February 1967 by C. J. Ward. The KwaZulu-Natal Herbarium (NH) holds two sheets, NH0059277-1 and NH0059277-2. The National Herbarium (PRE) holds a third sheet as PRE0372442-0 and the Claude E. Phillips Herbarium (DOV) a fourth, whose label carries everything the Delaware catalogue omits.

Collection and locality

Durban's entry gives the date as 20 February 1967, the locality as Durban District: Umbilo. and the altitude as 82 m. Its plant description reads HT: 2.10, HTUNIT: m , GRFRMS: Shrub. The herbarium holds two sheets of the gathering, NH0059277-1 and NH0059277-2.

The Delaware sheet, and what its catalogue omits

A fourth sheet reached the Claude E. Phillips Herbarium (DOV) at Delaware State University by way of the Bailey Hortorium at Cornell. Its catalogue entry records the country as South Africa and nothing else: no collector, no number, no date, no locality. The sheet itself carries a printed National Herbarium, Pretoria card giving the grid reference 2930DD (PIETERMARITZBURG), the region NATAL, the collector and number C.J. WARD 6086, the date 20/2/1967, the altitude c.27 ft, and the note Durban District, Umbilo. Shrub, approximately 2.1 m tall, in old garden, red slightly clayey sand. Only one seen.

Specimen and identification

All four sheets are filed as Cannabis sativa L. var. sativa. Delaware's identification remark reads DOV filed-as name.
