Verschueren 426 is an accession record for a pressed herbarium specimen of Cannabis sativa collected at Banana, at the mouth of the Congo River in what is now Kongo Central in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and was then the Belgian Congo, in April 1913 by R. Verschueren. Meise Botanic Garden holds the sheet as catalogue BR0000014662645.[1] GBIF publishes the gathering as preserved specimen occurrence 1839971772.[2]
Collection and locality
The label of the Herbier du Jardin botanique de l'État in Brussels carries the number 426, the word chanvre for hemp and the stamp of R. Verschueren.[3] The locality is recorded in manuscript as Banane, the French spelling of Banana, the port at the Congo River mouth, with the date Avril 1913.[3] GBIF gives the month as August, which the sheet does not support, so the label is followed here.[2]
Specimen and identification
The sheet is annotated with the symbol for a female plant, so the mounted material is pistillate.[3] The determination Cannabis sativa L. was confirmed on the Brussels slip in January 1945, initialled by the determiner.[3][1]
