Vašák s.n. is a herbarium accession of cannabis gathered not far from the village of Gosh, in the Areguni mountains of the Dilizhan district, today's Tavush Province, Armenia, at 1,800 m on 5 October 1974 by V. Vašák. Meise Botanic Garden holds the sheet as BR0000023200326.[1]
Collection and locality
The label is a printed form, V. Vašák : Iter Caucasicum 1974 (V. Vašák: Caucasian journey, 1974), filled in by typewriter: Cannabis sativa L., Habitat: Caucasus, montes Areguni, distr. Dilishan, haud procul a pago Gosh. Alt. 1800 m s. m. (Caucasus, Areguni mountains, Dilizhan district, not far from the village of Gosh; 1,800 m above sea level), Die: 5. 10. 1974 and Legit: V. Vašák; the lines for a flora and a number are blank.[2] The catalogue gives the collector, the date and Caucasus, montes Areguni, with no point.[1][3] Gosh is a village of the Dilijan municipality of the Tavush Province, at about 1,200 m on the Getik; the Areguni range forms the watershed between the basins of the Little Sevan and the Getik.
Specimen and identification
The sheet carries one large, much-branched plant with dense, leafy tops.[2] The label names it Cannabis sativa L., the name under which the catalogue files it. A printed slip above the label records that stem tissue was taken from the specimen for DNA by Christopher J. Grassa of the Economic Botany collections at Harvard on 2 July 2018, for a study headed Population dynamics in Cannabaceae.[2]
