Discussion

Evidentiary scope

The label places a cannabis plant near a mountain village of north-eastern Armenia at 1,800 m in October 1974. It gives no habitat beyond the place and the altitude, no use and no note on cultivation. The DNA slip records sampling; no result of it was read for this page. A single gathering does not establish a landrace or a continuing population. The accession is classified Other and no conservation priority is assigned.

Label reading

Read twice, independently, from the garden's image (5755 × 8025 pixels; uploaded as a reduced copy). The page states only what the readings agree, except where noted.

  • Printed form. V. VAŠÁK : ITER CAUCASICUM 1974 / Flora (blank) / No (blank) / Habitat: / Die: / Legit:
  • Typed. Cannabis sativa L. / Caucasus, montes Areguni, distr. Dilishan, / haud procul a pago Gosh. / Alt. 1800 m s. m. / 5. 10. 1974 / V. Vašák.
  • Slip (printed, above the label). Population dynamics in Cannabaceae / Stem tissue removed for DNA / Christopher J. Grassa (ECON) - 2018/07/02 / HARVARD UNIVERSITY HERBARIA.
  • Card and stamp. HERB. HORTI BOT. NAT. BELG., with the barcode BR0000023200326.
  • Readings that differ. A short note in ink at the lower right was read N. 4351 and Acc 1985; it is not used.

Georeferencing

The point 40.73, 45.00 is the village of Gosh, OpenStreetMap way 539277929, in the Dilijan municipality of the Tavush Province. The label places the gathering haud procul a pago Gosh, not far from the village, at 1,800 m. SRTM gives 1,217 m at the village; ground at about 1,800 m lies 1.7 to 2.5 km from it, so the label's altitude fits the slopes above the village, not the village itself. The Areguni range is the watershed between the basins of the Little Sevan and the Getik, on which Gosh stands. Basis: settlement point. Uncertainty: about 5 km.

Editorial treatment

DNA slip. The slip is reported as it reads. ECON stands after the name on the slip and is not expanded here. No publication of the sampling was looked for or read for this page, and the page makes no claim about one.

Place. The label's Dilishan is Dilizhan; the district of 1974 is not today's unit, and the province field takes Tavush Province, in which Gosh lies today.

Collector. The collector field takes the label's V. Vašák. No source read for this page gives his full name, and he is not linked.
