Tsiang 7431 is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa collected on the open edge of dense scrub at Anlung (Anlong), Guizhou (then Kweichow), China, at a recorded 500 m on 20 October 1930 by Y. Tsiang of the Academia Sinica. The New York Botanical Garden holds a sheet as 01414422[1] and the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh a duplicate as E01459320.[2] The Institute of Botany, Jiangsu Province and Chinese Academy of Sciences in Nanjing holds two more, NAS00290025[3] and NAS00290027.[4]
Collection and locality
Both sheets carry the printed label of the herbarium of the Metropolitan Museum of Natural History, Academia Sinica, Nanking (國立中央研究院自然歷史博物館植物標本室), headed Flora of Kweichow. It reads Anlung, 500 m. on open edge of dense scrub. herbaceous, frt. greenish, Y. It gives the locality as Anlung, Lohchu, S. Kchow, Border of K…, the end of the last word hidden, the altitude 500 m, the habitat At open edge of dense scrub, the habit Herbaceous, the leaves Deep green above, whitish below and the fruit Greenish, with the same number and date.[7][8] The Chinese Virtual Herbarium publishes its sheet images under a non-commercial, no-derivatives licence (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0); they are read and cited here, not reproduced.
Specimen and identification
Both sheets carry a leafy stem with greenish fruit clusters in the leaf axils.[5][6] The collector determined the plant himself as Cannabis sativa Linn.; E. Small determined the New York sheet in August 1975 as Cannabis sativa L. subsp. sativa var. sativa.[5]
