Thomson s.n., Mysore and Carnatic is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa from Maisor & Carnatic, the old names of Mysore and the Carnatic in southern India, distributed by Joseph Dalton Hooker and Thomson. The Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle in Paris holds it as P06780076, received in 1859.[1]
Collection and locality
The handwritten slip is headed Herb. Ind. Or. Hook. fil. & Thomson (the herbarium of East India of Hooker the younger and Thomson). It reads Cannabis sativa L. var. indica, Hab. Maisor & Carnatic, Regio trop. (tropical zone) and Alt. with a blank, and names the collector Thomson, with an initial that is not clearly legible. A printed label reads Indes orientales and Donné par MM. J-D. Hooker et Thomson. 1859. (given by Messrs J. D. Hooker and Thomson, 1859).[2] The catalogue gives the same place, the donation note and the collector Thomson, T.[1]
Specimen and identification
The plant occupies the right half of a sheet whose left half is a separate accession, Strachey & Winterbottom s.n., Kumaon (by 1849), catalogued as P02443058.[2] The slip names it Cannabis sativa var. indica; the catalogue names it Cannabis sativa L.[1]
