Discussion

Identifier

The accession identifier is RSC-SDN-UNK-0120080001-R1: the identifier of the 2008 collection, RSC-SDN-UNK-0120080001, with the reproduction suffix -R1.

Sourcing

The RSC listing for Sudanese as it stood on 27 October 2026 and its 21 versions in the Wayback Machine from September 2020 to March 2026; the Kwik Seeds listing as it stood on 26 October 2026; and the GRIN-Global entry for G 33762.

Evidentiary scope

The donor's note on G 33762 establishes that the seed given to the genebank in August 2023 came from an ex situ maintenance grow of the 2008 collection. The listing itself has never said how its seed was produced, nor where, when or by whom it was grown. This page takes the seed on sale to be that maintenance-grow seed because the note describes the line RSC sells and RSC lists no other Sudanese seed.

Typing

  • Accession type: Reproduction, autochtonous No: the donor's note calls the seed the product of an ex situ maintenance grow.
  • Classification: Landrace, the class of the collection it was grown from.
  • Sourcing type is left empty: the sources do not say how many generations have been grown.
  • No coordinates. The sources do not say where the reproduction was grown, and the collection itself has no point; why is on Talk:RSC-SDN-UNK-0120080001.
  • Seed viability is left empty: the listing's 100 per cent has stood since its earliest archived version, with no date of test.

Photographs

The infobox image and the gallery are from the RSC listing, uploaded under fair use at reduced resolution; the listing captions none of them. The flowering plant against a black background has been on the listing since its earliest archived version, of September 2020, with two near-identical photographs that are not used; the dried buds since August 2021; and the tall plants outdoors since December 2024. They show plants grown outside Sudan, so they are on this page and not on the collection's; the captions describe what the pictures show.

USDA genebank accession

The U.S. National Plant Germplasm System holds Sudanese seed as G 33762 (GRIN-Global entry), received on 22 August 2023 in a donation of one packet from Angus. The infobox lists it as the same lot as this accession:

  • the donor's note describes "Seeds from an ex-situ maintenance grow of an accession originally collected in 2008 in the Nile River region of South Sudan";
  • RSC lists no other Sudanese line, and the listing sold the line before the donation and after it.

The entry gives the origin as Sudan; the country is discussed on Talk:RSC-SDN-UNK-0120080001. The entry carries a note that it was included in the unit's 2024 field trial in New York; the article does not report it.
