Identifier
The accession identifier is RSC-IND-UTT-0120240002, built from the holder, the ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 country, the province segment, the month, the year and the sequence number.
- Province segment
UTTis for Uttarakhand, in which Kumaon lies, as on RSC-IND-UTT-0120240001. - Year 2024 is the year in the sourcing line, "Winter 2024". The month digits are
01because no month is given. - Sequence 0002.
RSC-IND-UTT-0120240001is Kumaoni, from the same Kumaon sourcing of winter 2024.
Sourcing
The RSC listing for Nanda Devi as it stood on 27 October 2026 and its 21 versions in the Wayback Machine from November 2019 to April 2026; the Kwik Seeds listing as it stood on 26 October 2026; and the GRIN-Global entries for G 33744 and G 33745. Kwik Seeds is the shop RSC calls its other site (RSC, Hemp & Multipurpose).
Lots at this listing
The listing's address has carried three lots under the title Nanda Devi.
- "Personally collected at source in Kumaon" in November 2019, and "The Real Seed Company, Kumaon Himalaya, 2019 Harvest" from August 2020 to January 2022 (eight versions).
- "Kumaon Himalaya, 2021 Harvest" from July 2022 to January 2025 (nine versions).
- "Kumaon Himalaya, India (Winter 2024)" from May 2025 (four versions).
This page is the winter 2024 lot. The 2019 and 2021 lots are not documented on the wiki yet. The USDA holds Nanda Devi and Nanda Devi #2 seed (G 33744, G 33745, received 22 August 2023) that the donor's notes describe as collected in 2021 by Sascha Eckstein at Loharket, Bageshwar District, from villagers who grow a charas type and a larger multipurpose type, dati; the notes say the collector did not reach the household usually visited for the charas type, "so may not have obtained the right seeds". Those lots match the 2021 harvest, not this one, and are not listed in the infobox. The listing's terpene and cannabinoid profile of "a standout specimen grown outdoors in Spain" has been on it since November 2019 and describes a plant of an earlier lot, so the article does not report it; nor does it report RSC's powdery mildew test of February 2025, made while the 2021 lot was on sale.
Typing
- Classification: Landrace, sourcing type
Point of Origin, autochtonousYes: the listing describes a strain that farmers in particular villages grow for charas. - Division.
Kumaon, from the listing's "Kumaon Himalaya", as on RSC-IND-UTT-0120240001. - Collector.
Angus, as on the other accessions whose sourcing line reads "The Real Seed Company". - Planting.
Self-sown, from "this strain is allowed to self-sow, germinating during March". The harvest months are the listing's mid-August to mid-September. - Processing.
Charas, with the hand-rubbed and braided charas the listing describes in the notes. - Related accession. Kumaoni, the other line RSC sources in Kumaon with the same sourcing of winter 2024. No source says whether the two come from the same villages.
- Seed viability is left empty: neither listing reports a test for this lot.
- Conventions. Photoperiod
Short-dayand introgressionMinimalfollow the other RSC accessions; the listing states neither.
Georeferencing
No point is given. The listing names the Kumaon Himalaya and places the villages "to the east of the Nanda Devi Sanctuary". It names no village or district, and a direction from the sanctuary is not a place. Kumaon is an administrative division made up of several districts, too large an area for one point to say where the seed was gathered. The point on RSC-IND-UTT-0120240001 rests on an inference this page does not repeat, and the Loharket of the 2021 lot describes another lot.
Source discrepancies
- Genetics line. RSC: "Himalayan Cannabis Landrace". Kwik Seeds: "Himalayan Domesticate (Intermediate Landrace)".
- Use. RSC: "cultivated by farmers specifically for charas", unlike "multipurpose fibre–seed–drug Himalayan crops". Kwik Seeds: "not grown for fibre but instead is used by farmers exclusively for charas".
- The other type. RSC: "the distinct large-seeded domesticate (known as 'dati')". Kwik Seeds: "the distinct large-seeded strains (known as 'dati')".
- Villages. RSC: "a few remote Kumaoni villages". Kwik Seeds: "a few remote villages of northern Kumaon".
Photographs
None. Every photograph on the listing was uploaded in 2019 and belongs to the 2019 lot: the versions of November 2019 caption them as plants in Kumaon and in Spain in October, and as hand-rubbed charas from Kumaon.
