Discussion

Scope

  • One region for both provinces. The Aceh Besar uplands, the Gayo Lues fields in the Leuser forest and the Tor Sihite hills of Mandailing Natal are taken as one growing region. No source divides the cultivation of northern Sumatra into separate zones, and the reported sites share the same pattern of dispersed upland plots found and destroyed by enforcement.
  • Gene pool and regional complex. Neither is assigned. No source places the cannabis of northern Sumatra in a gene pool, and no plant from the region has been described.
  • Coordinates. 3.60, 97.40 is a map centre between the Aceh and North Sumatra sites. It is not a surveyed point.
  • Elevation. The infobox range of 172 to 1,300 metres runs from Mesalee in Aceh Besar (2025) to Desa Pulo in Seulimeum (2023). The Tor Sihite finds, at about 950 to 1,145 metres, fall within it.
  • Status. The status is Unknown: no assessment of the region's cannabis has been made.

Discrepancies

  • Desa Pulo elevation. The national narcotics agency gave the October 2023 field at Desa Pulo at 1,300 metres and the September 2025 field at 700 metres. Neither release says whether the two fields were the same site. The article gives both.
