Discussion

Evidentiary scope

The label is stamped Introduced & cultivated and gives the habitat as open field, planted among corn, near Pah Dang (red Lahu) Village in Geut Chang subdistrict, on 30 July 1997. It also notes that the plant is native to central Asia. The stamp records that the species is not native; it does not say where the seed came from. The note gives central Asia as the native range of the species and does not say where the seed came from either. The label records no use and no legible local name. Seed of drug-type cannabis from elsewhere reached Thailand in the 1970s (McPartland and Small 2020, pp. 84–85), so the date of this sheet does not exclude introduced seed. The class rests on the label: a crop planted among corn at a red Lahu village. The accession is classified Landrace, by inference from the label. The sheet does not show what became of the crop or whether its seed survives, and no conservation priority is assigned.

Georeferencing

The label names a mountain, a valley, a village and the subdistrict of Geut Chang in Mae Taeng District. None of the smaller names resolved in OpenStreetMap under the label's spellings, which are the collector's own. The district is georeferenced rather than declined: the infobox holds 19.19, 98.87, the point OpenStreetMap gives for the administrative area of Mae Taeng District. It is an area point for the district, not a collection point, and it places the gathering only to within about 40 km. The district point stands at 617 m, well below the label's 1125 m, which is expected: the label's ground lies in the hills and the district point does not stand for it. This supersedes the refusal recorded here earlier, which declined a point.

Editorial treatment

The accession is filed under the Academy's sheet, which carries the same label as the Forest Herbarium's and is published under CC0. The Forest Herbarium sheet is listed in the article.

The locality field uses the label's spellings, Pah Dang and Geut Chang. The collector field uses the label form J.F. Maxwell. The long morphological note is summarised in the article.

Source discrepancies

  • The label reads upper Gu Gahp Valley near Pah Dang (red Lahu) Village. The Academy's catalogue gives Gu Gan. The Forest Herbarium's gives red Lahn. The article follows the label.
