Evidentiary scope
The labels place the plant at the Temple of Heaven in September 1936. They give no habitat, use or note on cultivation. The accession is classified Other and no conservation priority is assigned.
Label reading
Read twice, independently, from the Chinese Virtual Herbarium's image of the sheet (PE 00557898, 1,040 × 1,440 pixels).
- Typed form (printed 植物 / 中國科學院植物分類研究所 / 植物標本室): 00686 / 採集人及號數 金[·][·] (stamped, the last two characters blurred) 1936年9月20日 / 產地 天壇 / 學名 Cannabis sativa L.
- Fan Memorial Institute label (printed 靜生生物調查所植物標本室 / HERBARIUM OF FAN MEMORIAL INSTITUTE OF BIOLOGY): Fd. No. 686 / Herb. No. 70878 (red) / Cannabis sativa L. / Collector T.F.King / Loc. Hopei: Temple of Haver (cut at the edge) / Date Sep. 20,1936.
- Tag (printed): Shansi-Chihli Exp. / Coll. W. Y. Hsia, 1929 / No. K. (red) 686 (pencil).
- HOPEI province stamp; Fan Memorial Institute stamp; pencil 27.
The readings agree. One reading takes the tag's printed collector line as struck through.
Georeferencing
天壇 is the Temple of Heaven, the imperial complex of religious buildings in Beijing (Wikidata Q125445); the Fan Memorial label's Temple of Haver is the same name, cut at the sheet's edge. The point 39.88, 116.40 is the middle of the park's outline in OpenStreetMap (way 24824550, about 1.98 km²), checked to fall inside it. The label gives no altitude. The point stands for the park, not the spot in it where the plant was gathered. Basis: settlement point. Uncertainty: about 2 km.
Editorial treatment
The two labels. The typed form is of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, founded in 1949, so it was filled in later from the collecting data; the Fan Memorial label is the contemporary one, and the two agree on the place and the date.
Collector. The collector field keeps the label's T. F. King, as on King 460 (1936). The form's stamp shows 金 and two characters that could not be read; the catalogue gives 金德褔, and no source on him was found. The name is not linked.
The reused tag. The tag's printed Coll. W. Y. Hsia, 1929 belongs to the tag stock, reused here as on King 460; the handwritten K. 686 matches King's field number.
Province. The label's Hopei was the province around Peiping in 1936; the Temple of Heaven lies in today's Beijing, and the province field takes Beijing.
Image. The Chinese Virtual Herbarium publishes its images under CC BY-NC-ND 4.0, so the page cites each sheet's image and shows none.
