Identifier

The accession identifier is KHA-LAO-LNA-0120140001, built from the holder, the ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 country, the province segment, the month, the year and the sequence number.

  • Holder segment KHA stands for Khalifa Genetics.
  • Province segment LNA is for Luang Namtha Province, in which Muang Sing lies. LUA is already used for Luang Prabang.
  • Year 2014 is the collection year the company states: "Bodhi, famous strain hunter and breeder, collected the seeds directly at source during his 2014 yunnan china and northern laos seed safari". It is the seller's account and is attributed to it in the article.
  • Month 01 is the placeholder used when no month is given.
  • Descriptive name. The company's page carries three names: "Lao Highland" in its heading, "Lao Highland Tribe" in its title and breadcrumb, and "lao-highland-jungle-sativa" in its address (the earliest capture's heading: "Highland Jungle Sativa"). ACE sells it as Lao Highland, the name used here.

Sourcing

Khalifa Genetics' own product page (https://khalifagenetics.com/product/lao-highland-jungle-sativa/), read live on 12 October 2026 and in Wayback Machine captures of 29 October 2020 (the earliest) and 27 January 2025 (the latest, whose description matches the live page). The collection sentence is the same in all three. The page's own data gives a publication date of 23 February 2020.

ACE Seeds' Spanish listing (https://www.aceseeds.org/semillas/lao-highland-semillas-regulares/), read live on 12 October 2026, is cited because only it names Muang Sing ("procedente de Muang Sing, en el norte de Laos"); the English listing (https://www.aceseeds.org/en/seeds/lao-highland-regular-seeds/) gives the same P3 label without the place. ACE Seeds stocks the line and its listing reproduces much of Khalifa Genetics' text. Its specification table (Type and Genetics rows, flowering times, bouquet) is ACE's own and is cited to ACE.

Every statement about the line is the company's or ACE's account and is attributed. Bodhi is named in the article and not entered as collector: the field links a page.

Typing

  • Classification: Landrace. The company writes: "Bodhi, famous strain hunter and breeder, collected the seeds directly at source during his 2014 yunnan china and northern laos seed safari." It says that the line has been grown for generations by Akha people. That places the source of the seed with Akha growers. The accession is classified Landrace, by inference from the company's account, which names no village or grower; the company's suggestion that the Akha brought the seed from Yunnan does not bear on the class. The account has not been checked against other sources. An earlier version of this note classified the line as Other, on the ground that a vendor listing does not establish the class of the source population.
  • Sourcing type: Unknown provenance. The chain of custody from the source population to the seed on sale is the company's account and no other source records it.
  • Accession type is left empty. The company describes a preservation project and ACE labels the seed P3, but no source names a documented parent collection.
  • Collection date: 2014, the company's stated year.
  • Cultivation status: Unknown. The company's page offered seed on 12 October 2026 (marked in stock). That says nothing about whether the source population is still grown.
  • Traits. Flowering times and aroma are ACE's figures; the effects are the company's.

Seller text not used

The company's suggestion that the line hints at a link between Yunnanese landraces and the tall sativas of Southeast Asia is its own speculation and is reported only as the company's suggestion about the Akha. ACE's figure that about 40% of the plants turn purple is not used; the company says "many plants".

Photographs

The 3 photographs on this page come from the image gallery of Khalifa Genetics' own listing for the line, as it stood on 12 October 2026, and were retrieved from the Wayback Machine's copies of the same files; each file page gives the source file and the capture. The gallery holds 4 photographs; the other one is not used here. The listing carries no captions and credits no photographer. The captions here describe only what each photograph shows. The listing gives no date, place or grower for any photograph, so the pictures illustrate the line as the seller presents it and are not collection documentation. They are used under a fair-use rationale.

Georeferencing

ACE names Muang Sing, which is both a town and the district around it (Sing District), and does not say which. The point 21.27, 101.10 is the middle of Sing District in OpenStreetMap (relation 5831771, 1,274 km²), inside its boundary; the town of Muang Sing (node 297704490) lies about 10 km from it, within the uncertainty. It is an area point for the district, not the place the seed was gathered. The company itself names only northern Laos. Basis: district point. Uncertainty: about 21 km.

Conservation priority

Not rated. The listing gives nothing about the size or status of a source population.
