Identifier
The accession identifier is CBG-ZAF-UNK-0120160001, built from the holder, the ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 country, the province segment, the month, the year and the sequence number.
- Holder segment
CBGstands for Cannabiogen. - Country segment
ZAFand province segmentUNK. Cannabiogen's product page gives the genetics as South Africa and names no place in the country. ACE Seeds' listing says "from Durban", which is also the product's name; it is not read as a collection place, so no province is entered. - Year 2016 is the year of the earliest dated document found that lists the line: Cannabiogen's English home page, captured by the Wayback Machine on 14 April 2016 (https://www.cannabiogen.com/en/Inicio.php). No source gives a collection year, so, as for other vendor accessions without one, the identifier takes the first attested year. A Wayback Machine capture shows when the archive saw a page, not when the line went on sale, so the year is a lower bound and moves if an earlier capture or catalogue is found.
- Month 01 is the placeholder used when the year comes from first attestation.
Sourcing
Read from Wayback Machine captures:
- Cannabiogen's English home page of 14 April 2016: the product name, the bank ("CannaBioGen"), "Regular seeds", and packs of five and ten.
- ACE Seeds' listings in the Cannabiogen section of its shop, in English of 3 July 2016 and in Spanish of 10 July 2016: the description and a table of characteristics (type, sativa share, THC, flowering, harvest month, yield, pest and climate resistance, genetics).
- Cannabiogen's own product page of 14 March 2019, in Spanish: the bank, "Genética: South Africa", the yield, the flowering time and the same description as ACE Seeds' Spanish listing.
Every statement about the line is the company's account, or ACE Seeds' listing of the company's product, and is attributed. No collector, farmer, collection site or collection date is named, and no independent source for the line's origin was found.
Typing
- Classification: Other. Cannabiogen's account of the line is its own and is attributed in the article; a vendor listing does not establish the class of the source population.
- Sourcing type: Unknown provenance. The listing gives no chain of custody from the source population to the seed on sale.
- Accession type is left empty. The company says the seed on sale is the fourth generation of the line, but no source names the plants or the seed it was grown from, so the page is not typed Reproduction and carries no parent accession.
- Cultivation status: Unknown. The company's home page still offered seed in April 2021 and only its Delta nutrient range in May 2022 (see Cannabiogen). That says nothing about whether anyone still grows the line.
- Traits. The flowering times and aromas in the infobox are the company's. ACE Seeds' table gives a THC content of 10 to 12 % with no test behind it; it is left out.
Other lots of the line
Cannabiogen's Deluxe Mix of 2002, a pack of mixed seed of the breeding stock in its collection, listed "Durban pura" among its components (http://www.cannabiogen.com/esp/mix.html, captured 12 February 2002). No source says whether the line sold from 2016 was grown from that stock, and the identifier's year does not rest on it.
HCG-ZAF-UNK-0120210001, the 1973 Durban of Hippie Cannabis Genetics, is a separate lot. No source read connects it with Cannabiogen's.
Archived versions
Listed on Cannabiogen's English home page on 14 April 2016. ACE Seeds' listing was captured in English on 3 July 2016 and 5 June 2018 and in Spanish on 10 July 2016 and 14 January 2017, and ACE Seeds' Cannabiogen section listed "Durban Standard" in January 2017. Cannabiogen's own product page was captured on 14 March 2019. The line is in Cannabiogen's list of regular seeds of 9 May 2021 and its catalogue list of 22 September 2021.
Georeferencing
No point is given. Cannabiogen names South Africa and no place within it. ACE Seeds' "from Durban" repeats the product's name and says nothing about where the seed was gathered, so a point at the city would place a name rather than a population.
Conservation priority
Not rated. Neither listing gives anything about the size or status of a source population.
