Sodombekov KPL_00133 is a herbarium accession of cannabis whose printed label places the gathering at Taldy-Bulak, in Chüy Region, Kyrgyzstan, at 1,700 m, on 23 July 2004, by Ishenbay Sodombekov and Natalya Rogova, as a voucher for pharmaceutical screening. The label itself names another plant, Salvia sclarea; a slip above it names the sheet Cannabis sativa. The Chrysler Herbarium of Rutgers University holds two sheets, CHRB0142745[1] and CHRB0142746.[2]
Collection and locality
Both sheets carry the same printed label of Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, headed PLANTS OF KYRGYZSTAN. It reads LAMIACEAE, Salvia sclarea L., Det. By: Natalya Rogova, 23 July 2004, Locality: Asia, Kyrgyzstan, Chui, Taldy-Bulak., Habitat: Temperate, Terrestrial, Mmtnmdw, Lnsierno, -, Site No: KGP_00015 with the position 42°26.00'N 73°46.00'E and 1,700m, and Collector: Ishenbay Sodombekov KPL_00133 23 July 2004, Natalya Rogova. It adds that the plant was collected under the sponsorship of Rutgers University, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the Kyrgyz National Botanical Garden, the Kyrgyz National Academy of Sciences and the Kyrgyz Agricultural Research Institute, that it is a voucher specimen for pharmaceutical screening, and that it is an ICBG Central Asia voucher.[3][4] The catalogue gives Kyrgyzstan as the locality, with no collector, date or point.[1][2] The label's position lies high in the Kyrgyz Range, and several places in the Chüy Region bear the name Taldy-Bulak.
Specimen and identification
Each sheet carries one branched, leafy plant with its roots and an empty packet.[3][4] The printed label names the plant Salvia sclarea L., of the mint family; a separate printed slip pasted above the label on each sheet reads Cannabis sativa L. / Date: 23 July 2004, and a pencilled Cannabaceae is written at the foot. The catalogue files both sheets as Cannabis sativa L. and notes that this is the name under which they are filed.[1][2] The herbarium publishes the images under a licence for non-commercial use; they are not reproduced here.
