2005 RSC Arcadian IBL is a landrace cannabis accession from Mantineia in Arcadia, Greece, listed as Arcadian in the seed catalogue of The Real Seed Company (RSC).[1] RSC classifies it as a Greek heirloom and Arcadian landrace from the collection of Delicorganic, alongside Delicorganic's Cretan and Kalamata lines.[1]
Geography
RSC gives a latitude of about 37° N and places Arcadia in the Peloponnese mountains.[1]
History
RSC describes the Arcadia region as a renowned producer of high-quality sieved hashish when Greece was the main exporter to the hashish markets of the eastern Mediterranean. According to RSC, a smuggling trade from Greek ports and across the North African deserts supplied the large demand of Egyptian cities such as Cairo and Alexandria from the 1860s to the 1920s.[1]
RSC suggests that the accession may be representative of kannàvi, the drug-type cannabis (subsp. indica) grown on a large scale around Mantineia for more than 60 years.[1] The Kwik Seeds listing of the same line, on the shop RSC calls its other site,[2] says that it appears to be representative.[3]
Collection Details
Both listings give the sourcing as Delicorganic, Mantineia, Greece, 2005.[1][3] RSC states that the original seeds were collected around Mantineia in 2005, a collection recorded at Arcadian General Population 2005. That was before modern hybrid strains were widespread in Greece and before any known impact of modern strains on provincial regions such as the rural Peloponnese.[1]
According to RSC, the seed it distributes comes from an open-pollination maintenance grow intended to preserve the full genetic diversity of the original accession.[1] RSC files the line among its heirlooms, a category it defines as inbred lines that have undergone generations of selective inbreeding in the West.[4]
Cultivation Details
RSC reports that in the Peloponnese the plants begin flowering around July to early August and mature in the first half of October. It reports strong resistance to mould and pests and lists outdoor, greenhouse or indoor growing.[1]
RSC gives the purpose as hashish or bud. It describes sieved hashish and bud of high quality. It adds that, despite recent selection for bud, the line shows every sign of historical domestication for sieved hashish.[1]
Botanical Characteristics
RSC describes plants up to 2.5 metres tall with considerable lateral branching and moderate yields. It reports that bud formation and maturation vary somewhat between plants, but that the population is dominated by classic Mediterranean hash-plant morphology. The resin glands sit on long stalks, the buds are fairly loose and the bracts carry a high density of fully formed resin glands.[1]
Aroma
RSC describes the aromas and taste as mainly fruity, earthy, herbal and slightly spicy. It rates both the dry-sieved and the water-sieved hashish highly.[1] Its summary line lists sour fruit, hashy, herbal, woody and earthy notes with some spiciness. The Kwik Seeds listing gives the same list without the sour fruit.[3]
Effects
RSC describes the effect as euphoric, calming, focused, introspective and creative. It adds that customers describe the effects as uplifting, focused and active, "with a vibrant visual quality", as well as quite calming or meditative.[1] The Kwik Seeds listing gives the same effects without "euphoric".[3]
