2019 RSC Tora Bora Reproduction is seed grown outside Afghanistan from Tora Bora General Population 2019, landrace seed collected from small farmers near the Tora Bora cave complex in the Spin Ghar mountains, on the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan. It is the seed The Real Seed Company (RSC) sells under the listing Tora Bora.[1] The line is on sale at RSC and on its Kwik Seeds site (checked 27 October 2026).[1][2]

Production

From November 2020 to July 2024 the listing said that "The current seeds are from open-pollinating a large population from the original accession collected in the Hindu Kush".[3] The Kwik Seeds listing, on the shop RSC calls its other site,[4] still says so.[2]

In August 2023 Angus gave a packet of Tora Bora seed to the U.S. National Plant Germplasm System, which holds it as accession G 33767 at its Plant Genetic Resources Unit in Geneva, New York.[5][6] The donor's note calls it seed from an ex situ maintenance grow of an accession from the Afghan–Pakistan border region around the Tora Bora caves.[5]

Botanical Characteristics

Since September 2024 the listing has shown photographs that it describes as plants of the accession at 40° N in mid-July.[7]

Source accession

The seed was collected from local small farmers near the Tora Bora cavern complex, in the Spīn Ghar range.[1] The geography, history and description RSC gives for the line are on the page of the collection, Tora Bora General Population 2019.
