Popova s.n. is a herbarium accession of cannabis gathered along a street in Pokrovka, today's Kyzyl-Suu, in Issyk-Kul Region, Kyrgyzstan, in August 1950 by Yu. Popova, and named on its label Cannabis ruderalis Janisch. The Moscow University Herbarium holds the sheet as MW0818715.[1]
Collection and locality
The label, under the printed heading of the Moscow University Herbarium, is written Cannabis ruderalis Janisch, Покровка, Иссыккульской обл. Киргизск. ССР. по улице. (Pokrovka, Issyk-Kul Oblast, Kirghiz SSR; along the street), авг. 1950 (August 1950) and Ю. Попова (Yu. Popova); the space for a number is left blank.[2] The catalogue gives the collector and the month, with no locality.[1] The village of Kyzyl-Suu, east of lake Issyk-Kul, was known as Pokrovka from 1875.
Specimen and identification
The sheet carries two leafy stems bearing dense clusters of flowers.[2] The label names the plant Cannabis ruderalis Janisch. without a determiner; the catalogue files it as Cannabis sativa L.[2][1] No later determination slip is on the sheet.
