Louis 16015 is an accession record for a pressed herbarium specimen of Cannabis sativa collected on a Congo River sandbank at Yangambi, in what is now the Democratic Republic of the Congo and was then the Belgian Congo, on 5 September 1939 by J. Louis. Meise Botanic Garden holds the sheet as catalogue BR0000014662768.[1] GBIF publishes the gathering as preserved specimen occurrence 1839971951.[2] The sheet carries a printed field label of the Institut national pour l'étude agronomique du Congo belge, which records an altitude, a habitat and a vernacular name that neither the catalogue entry nor GBIF carries.[3]
Collection and locality
The label gives the locality as Yangambi, banc de sable Booke, a sandbank in the Congo River, and an altitude of about 470 m. It dates the gathering to 5 September 1939.[3] The vegetation is described as an Echinochloetum one year old and dry for two months, that is a stand of Echinochloa grasses on seasonally exposed sand.[3]
Specimen and identification
The label files the plant in Cannabinaceae and gives the botanical name as Cf. Cannabis sativa L. The qualifier marks the determination as provisional, and the Determinavit line is blank. The catalogue entry and GBIF both record the sheet as Cannabis sativa L. without that qualification.[3][1][2]
The observations read Plant filé. Herbier stérile., a drawn plant and a sterile specimen, so no flowers or fruit were available to settle the determination.[3]
The label records the vernacular name Bangi, attributed to Turumbu.[3]
