Liou 1923 is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa collected in the Western Hills of Peking (Beijing), China, on 1 July 1930 by T. N. Liou. The Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing holds a sheet as PE 00557919, and the Northwestern Institute of Botany in Yangling two more, WUK0001283 and WUK0001284.

Collection and locality

The field label, a typed Flora of China form, gives the number L.1923, the date 1/7/1930, the locality Western Hills, Peking, the family Moraceae and the collector T.N.Liou. The label of the Herbarium Academiae Nationalis Pekinensis reads Western Hills, Peiping, July 1, 1930 and Leg. T.N.Liou (1923). Det. W.Y.Hsia. The catalogue gives the collector, the number L.1923, the year and Beijing. The two Yangling sheets carry the same field form, numbered L.1923, and a herbarium label like the Beijing one, except that it reads Leg. T.N.Liou (1925).

Specimen and identification

The sheet carries a long, arching stem with its roots, sparse palmate leaves and small flower clusters near the tips. Both labels name it Cannabis sativa, the herbarium label as determined by W. Y. Hsia. The Yangling sheets carry young plants with their roots, palmate leaves and small flower clusters.
