Lewalle s.n., Rabat is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa collected at Rabat, Morocco, in July 1978 by the botanist José Lewalle. Meise Botanic Garden holds the sheet as BR0000023200173.[1][2] Its label calls the plant Chanvre (hemp) and "kif", and records it as escaped from a garden.
Collection and locality
The label is a printed form headed Herbier J. Lewalle / MAROC, with the number line struck through. In manuscript it gives the locality as Rabat, the date as 7. 78 (July 1978), the altitude as 20 m and the habitat as échappé de jardin (escaped from a garden).[3] The catalogue records the locality as Rabat and the date as July 1978, with no number.[2]
Recorded local name
Under Observations the label reads Chanvre (French for hemp) and, below it in quotation marks, "kif".[3]
Specimen and identification
The sheet holds one whole plant with its root. The label names the family as Cannabaceae and the plant as Cannabis sativa L.[3] A printed slip above the label records that leaf tissue was removed for DNA for the project Population dynamics in Cannabaceae by Christopher J. Grassa of the Harvard University Herbaria on 3 July 2018. A note at the foot of the mount reads Acc 1978.[3]
