Kolenati 2046 is a herbarium accession of cannabis gathered near the German colony of Helenendorf, today the town of Göygöl in Goygol District, Azerbaijan, on 21 July 1844 by Kolenati. The Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle in Paris holds the sheet as P06884321.[1]
Collection and locality
The small printed label gives the place, the flora and the collector in Latin: Prope coloniam Helenendorf, territorii Elisabethopoleos. (near the colony of Helenendorf, in the territory of Elisabethpol), Flora Transcauc. (flora of Transcaucasia) and Legit Dr. Kolenati. (gathered by Dr. Kolenati). The number 2046 is written by hand after a printed №, and the day and month, 21 July, by hand between the printed 18 and 44.[2] The catalogue gives the collector, the number and the date, and places the sheet in Goygol, with no point.[1] Elisabethpol is the former name of Ganja, about 10 km north of the town.
Specimen and identification
The sheet carries a taproot with its side roots, two long, straight, bare stem pieces, a leafy stem with palmate leaves of long, narrow, toothed leaflets, and a tall, branched flowering shoot.[2] The label names no plant; the catalogue files the sheet to the genus, as Cannabis L.[1]
