Farges 198 is a herbarium accession of Cannabis grown in the mountains for its oil seed, collected in July at 2,000 m in the district of Tchen-kéou-tin (Chengkou), in eastern Szechwan, now Chongqing, China, by the abbé Farges. Its slip gives the name hô mà. The Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle in Paris holds the sheet as P06781394.[1]
Collection and locality
The handwritten slip reads 198, 2,000 juillet, hô mà and plante cultivée dans les montagnes pour sa graine oléagineuse (a plant cultivated in the mountains for its oil-bearing seed). The printed museum label reads Plantes de Chine. (Su-tchuen oriental.) District de Tchen-kéou-tin. M. l'abbé Farges.[2]
Recorded local name and use
The slip gives the name hô mà and the use: the plant was grown in the mountains for its seed, which yields oil.[2]
Specimen and identification
The sheet carries a leafy flowering top with large palmate leaves of broad, toothed leaflets.[2] The catalogue names it Cannabis L.[1] Farges's second sheet from the district is Farges s.n., Chengkou (s.d.).
