Darma Valley is a landrace cannabis growing area in Pithoragarh District, Uttarakhand, India, in the Western Himalayas growing region. Its three accessions were collected at Sosa and Tanta in Dharchula Block, between 3,470 and 3,740 m.
Geography
The three points lie within 3 km of each other, on the high ground west of the Kali Valley: two at Sosa, at 3,470 and 3,740 m, and one at Tanta, at 3,470 m.
Cultivation
Two of the accessions are landrace and one is feral. The two from Sosa are a selection and a general population, the second named Pangu; the feral accession is the general population from Tanta.
The crop is intercropped and semi-feral: the population reproduces by itself and is also broadcast-sown from seed kept from locally grown flower. The harvest begins in September and is made into charas. Two give a planting season of May and June and a harvest ending in November. Cultivation is widespread in the region.
Isabella and Roy collected seed for all three on 18 and 19 September 2025, on the UTT01 expedition. The two Sosa samples are from the 2024 harvest and the Tanta sample from 2025.
