Cooper 1486 is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa collected on sand by a stream at a place its label gives as Chalimarphé Timpu, in Bhutan, at 7,000 feet on 11 July 1914 by R. E. Cooper. The label calls the plant a dwarf variety. The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh holds the sheet as E00150672.[1][2]
Collection and locality
The printed Flora of Bhutan label is filled in by hand: locality Chalimarphé Timpu, date 11/7/14 and altitude 7000'. Its printed foot reads R. E. Cooper, Collector for A. K. Bulley, Esq., Cheshire.[3] The catalogue gives the locality as Bhutan:Chalimarphe Timpu and the date as 11 July 1914.[1] The label's 7,000 feet is about 2,134 metres, and the infobox stores the rounded metric figure.
Habitat
The remarks line reads Dwarf var. on sand by stream.[3] The catalogue gives the description as Dwarf. var. and the habitat as on sand by stream.[1] Var. is the label's word; no varietal name is given, on the label or in the catalogue. Labels from the eastern Himalaya that note a plant's stature are compared in Dwarf and semidwarf Cannabis.
Specimen and identification
The label names the plant Cannabis sativa L., and the catalogue determines it the same way.[1] Edinburgh publishes the sheet image under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike licence.[3] Edinburgh holds four other Bhutanese sheets from Cooper's 1914 collecting: Cooper 3143 (1914), Cooper 1104 (1914), Cooper 1174 (1914) and Cooper 3352 (1914).
