Anders 4869 is a herbarium accession of Cannabis sativa collected on a spring-fed slope at Dab, four kilometres south of Jalala in the Kunar valley, Afghanistan, at 900 metres on 20 August 1970 by Olaf Anders. The Natural History Museum, Vienna holds the sheet as W 1997-0005268.[1][2]
Collection and locality
The label, in Vienna's transcription, reads Konar, Konartal, 4 km S Jalala, Quellhang bei Dab, 900 m, that is, in the Kunar valley, four kilometres south of Jalala, on a spring slope at Dab. It gives the date 20 August 1970 and the collector's number 4869.[1] Jalālah and Dab are villages of Kunar Province, Dab 3.6 kilometres south of Jalālah.[3]
Specimen and identification
Anders's own determination was Cannabis sativa. Karl Heinz Rechinger redetermined the plant subsp. indica in 1976, and the sheet is filed under that name.[1] The catalogue notes that leaf tissue was removed from the sheet for DNA analysis for C. F. Grassa in 2018.[1]
