Evidentiary scope

The label gives a name, a person and a town. There is no date, no altitude, no habitat, no use and no local name, so the accession is classified Other and carries no conservation priority. It documents Cannabis at Poona in Woodrow's hands.

The specimen is a whole plant, lifted with its root and pressed entire, with five dense female heads. That is how a garden or nursery plant is usually taken. It is not how a passing roadside sample is taken. The sheet says nothing about where the plant grew, so the accession asserts nothing about cultivation.

Georeferencing

Poona is present-day Pune, in Pune district, Maharashtra. The label names the town and no site within it, so no elevation is asserted and the coordinate is Pune's own point in OpenStreetMap (node 16174445), 18.52, 73.85, used as a locality georeference rather than as a reconstructed collection point.

Editorial treatment

The label carries no gathering date, so the title takes the (by <year>) form with the collector's death year as the limit. George Marshall Woodrow lived from 1846 to 1911 (IPNI 14901-1). The Harvard index of botanists gives the same dates. The collection date field is left empty.

The red-ink line M^r Woodrow Poona is in a different hand from the pencilled name above it. It reads as a note made by whoever received or mounted the sheet, not as Woodrow's own label. It is the whole of the provenance. The catalogue's Woodrow, G. M. rests on the same line.

The title keeps the label's Poona; the fields use the present-day Pune, as Fleming s.n., Simla (1849) does for Simla and Shimla.
