The border is the part of the municipality of Villanueva (OpenStreetMap relation 1314628; DIVIPOLA code 44874) that lies inside the border of the Baja Guajira growing area, the valley floor below 200 metres. It covers about 95 km², 37% of the municipality's 260 km²; the rest lies in the range growing areas. The municipal border is today's. The point in the infobox is a point inside the border, not a field.

- Betancourt and García (1994), p. 54, name Villanueva among the growing zones "en la baja Guajira". They do not say whether the growing in Villanueva was on the valley floor or the slopes.
- The status is Active: the Ministry of Defence's eradication dataset lists, for Villanueva with crop type marihuana, 1 row, 8 April 2013, 1.50 hectares (downloaded 20 October 2026). The dataset gives the municipality only, not whether the crop stood on the valley floor or on the slopes.
- Betancourt and García also list Los Zanjones, which OpenStreetMap places in Villanueva, on the valley floor inside this border.
