Discussion

Scope

  • Extent. The growing area is the municipality. Every plantation site reported since 2018 lies in one of its barangays or on the Saclit (Sadanga) boundary. The boundary operation of April 2026 is filed here because the report its news item uses (The Manila Times) places the plantations on the line between Sadanga and Tinglayan and names no barangay; a BusinessWorld report of an operation on 18 April with the same count names the boundary of Barangay Saclit. The operation of September 2026, whose report names the boundary of Barangay Saclit, is filed under the neighbouring growing area Sadanga, which covers Saclit and Betwagan.
  • Coordinates. 17.25, 121.03 is the point PhilAtlas gives for Barangay Loccong, rounded, chosen because most of the plantations were on or around Mount Chumanchil in Loccong. It is not a centre for the municipality, which PhilAtlas puts at about 17° 16′ N, 121° 9′ E.
  • Elevation. The infobox gives none. The figures in the article are estimates at single barangay points (about 1,880 metres at Loccong, about 1,010 metres at Buscalan), and the seller's figures for Buscalan (1,700 metres; 1,400 to 1,700 metres) are its own.

Identifications

  • Accessions. The two lines The Landrace Team calls domesticates from Buscalan (Buscalan Kalinga, Violeta Kalinga) are filed under this growing area. Its line called Kalinga is not: the seller places it only in "Kalinga province". The Phylos Bioscience sample labelled "Kalinga_Philippines" gives no place below the country.
  • Tulgao. The 2021 report names Sitio Ballay in "Barangay Tulgao"; the 2025 and 2026 reports name Tulgao East. The article keeps each report's form.

Source notes

  • May 2026. The Manila Times gives about 1.14 million plants at 10 sites over about 9.5 hectares on Mount Chumanchil. GMA News gives the national police's two figures for the same two days in Loccong, about 840,000 and 300,000, which add to the same total.
  • Plantation area in 2017. The 2017 figure of more than 85 hectares comes from a press release run by SunStar; it describes the area the proposed Tulgao–Loccong–Buscalan road would reach.
  • Arrests. The regional police chief's statement in 2024 that one farmer had been arrested that year does not say whether the arrest was in Tinglayan.
  • Kalinga quality. The 2016 statements on potency and on hashish concern Kalinga province as a whole.
