Sources
The journal papers cited are in the publishers' open texts or in PubMed Central, and each citation follows its Crossref record. Hillig and Mahlberg (2004) is cited from the publisher's free-access page, Sirikantaramas and colleagues (2004) on the journal's open-access page, and McPartland and Small (2020) in the publisher's PDF, from which the page numbers are taken. The UNODC manual of 2009 (ST/NAR/40) is cited from the PDF on the UNODC site; page numbers are the printed ones. Wood, Spivey and Easterfield (1896) is cited for the naming of cannabinol from charas, the same use as on Charas. Gaoni and Mechoulam (1964) is cited for its title and date; the account of the work comes from Pertwee (2006).
Where the sources disagree
- THC to CBD ratio in United States seizures, 1995. ElSohly and colleagues (2016) give the 1995 ratio as 14 in their abstract and as about 15 in the text of their results. The article uses the abstract's figure.
- Whether the THCA and CBDA synthases are alleles. Hillig and Mahlberg (2004) worked with the model of de Meijer and colleagues (2003), in which the two enzymes are encoded by alternative alleles of one gene. Laverty and colleagues (2019) found the two genes at separate, closely linked loci in the genome map of a drug-type by hemp cross. The article gives both, in date order.
- Numbering. Older papers, including the 2004 study that cloned the THCA synthase gene, call THC and its acid Δ1; the article uses Δ9 except where it names that older usage.
Other reports
- Small and Cronquist (1976) and Small and Beckstead (1973): what the article says of them comes from McPartland and Small (2020) and Hillig and Mahlberg (2004) and is attributed to those papers.
- Fellermeier and Zenk (1998) on the prenylation of olivetolic acid: the step is described from Gagne and colleagues (2012).
- De Meijer and colleagues (2003): its single-locus model is described from Hillig and Mahlberg (2004) and Laverty and colleagues (2019).
- Effects on people, medical uses, dosing and legal status beyond the hemp threshold are outside the page's scope.

File:Cannabis-tetrahydrocannabinol-structure.jpg(series box, lead image), a structural diagram to be drawn of (−)-trans-Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol: the three-ring skeleton with the phenolic hydroxyl group, the five-carbon side chain, the pyran oxygen and the double bond in the cyclohexene ring, with the ring positions numbered in the dibenzopyran system. Public-domain structure drawings of the molecule exist on Wikimedia Commons and can serve as a model.
