Discussion

Sources

  • Squire, Companion to the latest edition of the British Pharmacopoeia, 12th ed. (1880), pp. 80–81 (Wellcome scan).
  • Riboulet-Zemouli and Allué Creus (2024), quoting Booth, Cannabis: A History (2003), p. 199. Booth's book is cited at second hand.

Where the sources differ

  • Squire says O'Shaughnessy brought "a quantity" of Indian hemp; Booth, as quoted, says O'Shaughnessy gave Squire "some hashish". The article does not say which part of the plant Squire used, for that reason.
  • The name "Squire's Extract" and the patent come from Booth as quoted, not from Squire's Companion.

Not stated

  • The date of the patent, its wording and how long the extract was sold.
