Discussion

Evidence for the area

  • Accessions. Six seed accessions collected in 2024 name Si Songkhram as their growing area. Four come from the ISAN01 expedition (26 April 2024) and two from ISAN02 (23 February 2024). All six are landrace general populations from fields still in use.
  • Press. Three reports place licensed growing in Si Songkhram district: the Ban Lao subdistrict hospital's licence, the first in the province (MGR Online, 28 June 2021); the Medicinal Herbs Community Enterprise of Na Kham, founded in 2020 (Bangkok Post, 26 September 2022); and the community cannabis market event at Nong Khaen Chang, tambon Na Kham, on 10 March 2021 (Thairath, 11 March 2021). The reports speak of the district; none names the five villages or describes their populations.
  • Growing status. Active, on the 2024 accessions and the reports of 2021 and 2022. No source gives a year when growing began, so the infobox gives no first year.

Districts

  • Four districts. The five clustered villages lie in four districts: Tha Bo in Si Songkhram District, Don Toei and Don Haet in Na Thom District, Tha Kham Hai in Na Wa District (0.5 km from the Si Songkhram line) and Nong Sarai in Tha Uthen District (0.1 km from it), as OpenStreetMap also places them. The infobox leaves the district blank for that reason.
  • The sixth accession. ZOM-THA-NKP-0220250003, whose locality reads "Various villages", comes from villages in Si Songkhram District and has no map point or elevation. The infobox elevations, 145 to 151 m, are those of the five clustered points.

How the border is drawn

  • Unit. The border follows Si Songkhram District and Na Thom District together, as OpenStreetMap draws them, about 1,090 km². Si Songkhram is the district the press reports name; Na Thom is added because two of the five clustered villages, Don Toei and Don Haet, lie in it. Tha Bo lies inside Si Songkhram District. Tha Kham Hai (Na Wa District) and Nong Sarai (Tha Uthen District) lie 0.5 km and 0.2 km outside the two districts. They belong to the same cluster of villages, so the border takes each in by a corridor about 800 m wide.
  • Neighbours. To the north the line meets the Ban Phaeng growing area along the boundary of Ban Phaeng District.

Dates

  • Collection and harvest. The four ISAN01 accessions were collected on 26 April 2024 from the 2023 harvest. The two ISAN02 accessions record collection on 23 February 2024 and a sample harvest in 2025, a year after collection.

Names

  • Spelling. English-language reports of the Na Kham growers in 2022 spell the district Sri Songkhram; the page uses the RTGS form, Si Songkhram (ศรีสงคราม).
