Evidentiary scope

The article rests on the RSC listing for Hmong Hemp, the Kwik Seeds listing of the same line and RSC's blog post "Cannabis & the Hmong: Hemp vs Ganja" (April 2023). Kwik Seeds is the shop RSC calls its other site (RSC, Hemp & Multipurpose). The listings name Houaphanh Province and Hmong villages and no village by name. RSC now dates the sourcing to 2025; Kwik Seeds, and the RSC listing until at least June 2026, date it to 2023. The blog post shows seed of a Hmong hemp landrace collected in northeast Laos in April 2023. Whether the seed now on sale comes from that collection or a later one is not stated (see below). The account of Hmong cannabis culture is RSC's and has not been checked against other sources; the article attributes it. The conservation priority is Medium; the basis is below. The listings name Houaphanh Province ("Houapanh") and give a latitude of 20° N. The coordinate is the label point of Houaphanh Province in OpenStreetMap (relation 5831657), rounded to two decimal places: 20.24, 103.62. OpenStreetMap places the point in Houameuang District. Editorial treatment

Accession ID. RSC-LAO-HOU-0120250001 takes HOU from Houaphanh Province and the year from RSC's current sourcing line (2025), as the Balkhi accession follows RSC's year over Kwik Seeds'. The RSC listing itself gave 2023 until at least June 2026 (see below). The month digits are 01.
Province. The listings spell the name "Houapanh". It is entered as Houaphanh Province, the form the wiki's Northern Laos page already uses.
Collector. Angus, as on the other accessions RSC sourced itself.
Primary purpose. "Fibre and seed" is entered as Fibre and Seeds. It was entered as Fiber, the spelling the property then allowed, until the allowed value became Fibre (ruled 17 September 2026).

Lao terms. sah and bahn are given as the blog post writes them and are not entered as a local name, which would need the Hmong term.

Conservation priority

Medium. RSC says the hemp landrace is cultivated by Hmong villages across the highlands of Houaphanh Province, and that hemp is a traditional Hmong crop. The endangerment RSC reports for Southeast Asian ganja landraces is about ganja, not this hemp line. Source discrepancies

Sourcing year. RSC: "The Real Seed Company, Laos, Southeast Asia (2025)". Kwik Seeds: "The Real Seed Company, Laos, Southeast Asia, 2023". RSC's blog post of April 2023 describes seed "about to be germination tested after collection in Northeast Laos this week". Every archived version of the RSC listing, from October 2023 to June 2026, gives 2023 (below).
Classification. Only Kwik Seeds gives one now: "Cannabis sativa subsp. sativa var. sativa". The RSC listing carried the same line until at least June 2026 (below).
Only on RSC. "This is a pure hemp landrace, direct from Laos", the note on THC, the sentence on Hmong farmers obtaining ganja seed from Lao or Thai communities and the dating of Hmong poppy growing to the 19th century.

Archived versions

The Wayback Machine holds 11 versions of the RSC listing, from October 2023 to June 2026, and all were read. Every one gives the sourcing as "The Real Seed Company, Laos, Southeast Asia, 2023", the line Kwik Seeds still carries, and the classification "Cannabis sativa subsp. sativa var. sativa". The listing as read on 16 September 2026 gives "(2025)" and no classification, so the change came after 6 June 2026. The listing does not say whether the 2025 date marks a new collection. Because the archived versions give a different sourcing year, they are not used in the article.

Photographs

The listings' only image is a photograph of an elderly man smoking tobacco from a bamboo water pipe. RSC's file name says "not cannabis", and RSC's blog post gives a similar image a 1973 caption. It shows no cannabis and is not reproduced. The infobox image is instead RSC's own photograph of seed of a Hmong hemp landrace, from its April 2023 blog post, where it is described as just collected in northeast Laos. Its caption gives that date, because the listing does not say whether the seed on sale comes from that collection; its archived versions, from October 2023 to June 2026, give 2023 as the sourcing year.
