Evidentiary scope

The article rests on the RSC listing for Kumaoni, the Kwik Seeds listing of the same line, RSC's Himalaya and CBD category pages and three RSC blog posts (April 2023, January 2025 and December 2025). Kwik Seeds is the shop RSC calls its other site (RSC, Hemp & Multipurpose). The listings date the collection to winter 2024 and place it in a district or a few villages of northern Kumaon; they name no village, no farmer and no district. The account of Kumaon under the Kingdom of Nepal, of the Khas cultural zone and of fibre quality around Almora is RSC's and has not been checked against other sources; the article attributes it. Georeferencing

The listings name northern Kumaon and give a latitude of about 29° N. Kumaon is a division of Uttarakhand, not a district, and OpenStreetMap maps no boundary for it. Of its six districts, only Pithoragarh borders Tibet, and it also borders Nepal, which matches both listings (checked against the OpenStreetMap boundaries of Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, Champawat, Almora, Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar districts against the Tibet Autonomous Region, relation 153292, and Nepal, relation 184633). So that the accession appears on the map, the coordinate is the point OpenStreetMap gives for Pithoragarh district (relation 374820), rounded to two decimal places: 30.13, 80.48. OpenStreetMap places that point in Dharchula. It is an inference from the listings, not a collection site, and the district is not entered as a field.

The listing's latitude of 29° N does not cross Pithoragarh district, which spans 29.44° N to 30.81° N; read as a whole degree it is consistent with the district's southern part. The midpoint of Kumaon's six districts along 29.00° N falls at 79.69° E, in the southern lowlands, which contradicts "northern Kumaon", so the method used for the inferred points of earlier batches is not followed here. Editorial treatment

• Accession ID. RSC-IND-UTT-0120240001 takes UTT from Uttarakhand, the state that contains all of Kumaon, entered without a suffix as Indian states are. The month digits are 01, because "Winter 2024" gives no month.
• Division. Kumaon is entered as admin_2 with the label Division, following the 56 live ZOM-IND-UTT accessions, which enter Kumaon at that level and the district below it.
• Growing region. Western Himalayas, whose page lists Uttarakhand among its provinces, as on the live Kumaon accessions.
• Collector. Angus, as on the other accessions RSC sourced itself.
• Primary purpose. Multipurpose, RSC's own label for the type, as on Gorkha Nepali. The three uses are given in the prose.
• Dates. "Winter 2024" is entered as the collection year without a sample harvest date, as on Gorkha Nepali. Sowing in May or June comes from the January 2025 blog post, which describes the zone rather than this collection.
• Height. 2 to 6 m, the union of RSC's "up to 5 metres" and Kwik Seeds' "2 to 6 metres" for the same collection, as on Kalamata Red.
• Conservation priority. High: RSC and Kwik Seeds describe the landrace as unique to one district or a few villages, which is a limited population, and the seed comes from RSC alone. The ratings follow the accession definitions in authored/planning/DESIGN.md: Critical rare, from a single farmer or micro-population; High limited population, few sources; Medium moderate population, multiple sources known; Low common, broadly available within its range.
• Not entered. Chemotype, because "moderate to high levels of CBD" in most plants does not give a ratio; leaf and stem colour, because the green and purple colours are described for whole plants.
• Links. Kumaon is linked as a historical-geography page and Uttarakhand as the state. Tibet, Almora, the Kathmandu Valley and the Khas are left unlinked.

Source discrepancies

• Sourcing line. RSC: "The Real Seed Company, Northern Kumaon (Winter 2024)". Kwik Seeds: "The Real Seed Company, Kumaon Himalaya, India (Winter 2024)".
• Extent. RSC: "Unique to a district of northern Kumaon bordering Tibet". Kwik Seeds: "Unique to a few villages of northern Kumaon bordering Tibet and Nepal", which was RSC's own wording from August to December 2019.
• Height. RSC: "Up to 5 metres outdoors". Kwik Seeds: "2 to 6 metres outdoors", RSC's own figure from April 2021 to April 2025.
• Genetics line. RSC: "Himalayan Multipurpose Cannabis Landrace". Kwik Seeds: "Kumaoni Multipurpose Himalayan Landrace".
• Only on RSC. The sentence on crop and weed complexes, and "the Nepali resin familiar to some from the Hippy Trail era", where Kwik Seeds writes "the Nepalese".

The Gorkha Nepali sourcing line

The sourcing line of this listing, "The Real Seed Company, Northern Kumaon (Winter 2024)", is word for word the line that the RSC listing for Gorkha Nepali carried in all four of its archived versions, from 12 June 2025 to 21 April 2026, while placing that collection in Barpak, Nepal (see Talk:RSC-NPL-GAN-0120240001). On this listing the line appears in the four archived versions from 4 August 2025 to 11 March 2026 and in the listing as read on 17 September 2026; the version before it, of 25 April 2025, read "Northern Kumaon, Winter 2022". RSC's listing for Gorkha Nepali also compares its plants with this accession. The listings do not say whether the two collections are connected, and this page draws no conclusion. Archived versions

The Wayback Machine holds 25 versions of the RSC listing, from August 2019 to March 2026, and all were read. The listing has sold five collections under the same address, so only the versions of the winter 2024 collection describe the seed now on sale:

• Sourcing. "Personally collected at source in northern Kumaon, winter 2017" from August to December 2019; "Northern Kumaon, Winter 2019" from August 2020 to March 2022; "Winter 2021" from May 2022 to March 2023; "Winter 2022" from June 2023 to April 2025; the current line from August 2025.
• Height. "3 – 4 metres outdoors" in 2019, "2 – 6 metres" from August 2020 to April 2025 and "Up to 5 metres" from August 2025.
• Classification. "C. sativa subsp. indica var. himalayensis x C. sativa subsp. indica var. indica" from August 2020 to March 2022, for the winter 2019 collection. It is not used here.
• Other wording. "Intermediate domestication" stood among the characteristics until July 2024. A note recommending the Dolpa, Jumla and Dakshinkali accessions instead stood from January 2023 to April 2025.

Photographs

The infobox image and the gallery are the five photographs on the RSC listing, uploaded under fair use at reduced resolution. The current listing gives them no captions. The August to December 2019 versions (Wayback Machine) captioned copies of three of them, hosted on kwikseeds.com: the purple plant and the green top are captioned as outdoors in Oregon, and the charas as hand-rubbed charas from this Kumaoni strain. Those captions belong to the winter 2017 collection, so the captions here give the year 2019. The Kwik Seeds copies are byte-identical to the files the RSC listing shows now. RSC's blog post of May 2023 uses the charas photograph and says it shows sticks of charas made by farmers in villages in the same regions where RSC collected the Kumaoni, Nanda Devi #2 and Nanda Devi accessions, so its caption follows the post rather than the 2019 listing. RSC's post of July 2024 shows a different photograph of braided charas, from Garhwal in 2009 (correlation 0.29 against this one). The village photograph and the photograph beside the stone wall have no caption from RSC, so their captions say only what they show.
