Discussion

Evidentiary scope

The article rests on the RSC listing for Congolese and on the Kwik Seeds listing of the same line. Kwik Seeds is the shop RSC calls its other site (RSC, Hemp & Multipurpose). Both give the sourcing as "Genebank, via collector" and name no collection site, collector or grower. Both flag strong uncertainty about the line's origin within Africa. Kwik Seeds' "collected in equatorial Africa" and RSC's latitude of 4° S do not fix a country. The country field follows the name under which the line is sold, not a confirmed point of origin. The conservation priority (Low) was entered when the page was created in April 2026; no rationale was recorded. The line is a Spanish-bred heirloom. Éloise 23:19, 16 September 2026 (+07)

Georeferencing

The listings give a latitude of 4° S and "equatorial Africa", and sell the line as Congolese. They name no country or place. So that the accession appears on the map, the coordinate is inferred. It is the middle of the Democratic Republic of the Congo's extent along 4° S in OpenStreetMap (relation 192795), rounded to two decimal places: −4.00, 22.50. It follows the country entered on this page and the listings' latitude. It is not a place of origin, which the current RSC listing calls strongly uncertain within Africa, so the region code stays UNK. Éloise 02:50, 17 September 2026 (+07)

Editorial treatment

Conform pass of 16 September 2026. The article was compared with the current RSC listing and with the Kwik Seeds listing. It was rewritten so that each statement is attributed to one of them, with CS1 citations.

  • Collector changed from Angus to blank. The listings give the sourcing as "Genebank, via collector" and name no collector.
  • Removed from the article, because neither listing states them:
    • that founder material arrived in Spain during the 1990s. The listings say only that the line was bred in Spain for several generations and that "Congo" was applied to most African imports in 1990s Spain.
    • that the line is maintained by RSC and has been maintained ex situ since.
    • that several distinct African landraces likely circulated under the same label.
  • Moved to this page: the caveat on the country attribution.
  • Northern Lights is no longer linked. liamba now links to Diamba, which treats the name family.
  • Flowering time 13–17 weeks is the listing's 90–120 days in weeks. Photoperiod Short-day and introgression Minimal follow the other RSC accessions; neither listing states them. Éloise 23:19, 16 September 2026 (+07)

Source discrepancies

  • Origin. RSC: "An African cannabis landrace". Kwik Seeds: "A superb Congolese landrace collected in equatorial Africa".
  • Genetics line. RSC: "African Cannabis Landrace / Heirloom". Kwik Seeds: "Heirloom Congolese Ganja Strain" and "This inbred Congolese landrace".
  • Hybrids. RSC: "a pristine line that has not been crossed with Northern Lights". Kwik Seeds: "a pure strain".
  • Only on RSC. The note on the colonial-era photograph.
  • Archived versions. The Wayback Machine holds 21 versions of the RSC listing, from August 2019 to March 2026, and all were read. Several Kwik Seeds phrasings were RSC's own earlier text:
    • "Heirloom Congolese Ganja Strain" and "A superb Congolese landrace collected in equatorial Africa" (2019);
    • "Congolese Heirloom" (August 2020 to January 2023), with "collected in equatorial Africa" kept until January 2023.
"African Cannabis Landrace / Heirloom", "An African cannabis landrace" and the note that "Congo" was applied to most African imports in 1990s Spain all first appear in June 2023. The classification "C. sativa subsp. indica var. indica" appears from August 2020 to March 2026 and is not on the current listing. The article cites the versions of 19 August 2019, 18 April 2021 and 11 March 2026. Éloise 02:50, 17 September 2026 (+07)

Photographs

The listing's only image is the colonial-era photograph that RSC describes as a staged shot of Congolese men smoking ganja. It shows people and no plants. The article's Notes give RSC's comment on it. It is not reproduced, so the page has no image. Éloise 02:50, 17 September 2026 (+07)

Source collection

This accession is a reproduction whose collection has no page, and deliberately so. Both listings give the sourcing as "Genebank, via collector" and name no genebank, no collector, no country and no date. There is nothing to identify a collection with, and minting a page for one would assert an accession the sources do not describe.

The chain the listings do describe is: a collection somewhere in equatorial Africa, then several generations of selective breeding in Spain, then the seed RSC sells. This page is the last of those. If a genebank or collector is ever named, the collection becomes an accession under that holder's code, as Delicorganic's and the Russian Landrace Bureau's collections have, and this page takes it as its parent.
