Discussion

Why Phop Phra is a growing area

  • Phrommatham and colleagues (2026, read in full) survey Hmong hemp growers of Khiri Rat; Post Today (2018) quotes a Highland Research and Development Institute researcher placing villagers' own-seed hemp mostly in Hmong villages, especially Phop Phra; Wongwilairat and Punture (2024) describe the Ban Pa Kha Mai growers' group.
  • The status is Active: every source here dates from 2017 or later.

Extent and border

  • The border is Phop Phra District (OpenStreetMap), about 970 km² after trimming to the Myanmar border line of the region. Khiri Rat and Ban Pa Ka Mai fall inside it.
  • The infobox leaves gene pool and regional complex empty: the values carried by Western Thailand were set for the Tenasserim Hills further south.

Where the sources disagree

  • When the Hmong of Khiri Rat arrived. The Highland Research and Development Institute's area profile gives a move from Omkoi in 1925 (2,000 people, first to Doi Musoe in Mueang Tak, then Ban Pa Kluai in 1928 and Ban Pa Kha in 1953). Phrommatham and colleagues (2026), citing the subdistrict administration, give 1943. Both are on the page.

  • Pounpunwong (2026) and Thangruang and Panturee (2024) were read only in their abstracts.
