Leaf segments in Christison's grow-out

Martius (1856, pp. 29–30) summarises Alexander Christison's 1851 paper and writes: "Der indische Hanf war grösser, die Blattsegmente waren schmaler als die des europäischen im Garten" (the Indian hemp was larger, the leaf segments were narrower than those of the European in the garden). Read as it stands, the narrower segments belong to the Indian plants.

Christison (1851, journal p. 28), quoting Professor Balfour's description of the plants, says the reverse for the segments: the common hemp in the garden "has not attained the same size as the plants from Indian seeds, and the segments of the leaves are narrower". On the size of the Indian plants the two agree. On the leaf segments they do not.
