The item is dated to the verdict. The Kathmandu Post says the bench "issued the ruling on May 18, 2025. The full text of the verdict was made public only recently", and Kantipur gives the same date in the Bikram Sambat calendar ("४ जेठ २०८२ मा यो फैसला सुनाएको थियो", 4 Jestha 2082), which matches the Post's date. Both articles were published on 1 November 2026. The deadline runs "within three months of receiving this order", and neither article says when the government received it, so no calendar date for the deadline is given.

Scope of the order

The order concerns controlled cultivation and production for medicinal, scientific, agricultural, horticultural and industrial purposes. On recreational use the Post reports that "the court said the existing law did not explicitly provide for such use and that the issue had wider social and economic implications", and that it drew the attention of the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers to the need for broader consultation before any amendment. The order does not legalise recreational use.
