Evidentiary scope
The accession rests on two sources: the department's printed inventory entry for plant introduction 120498 (Inventory No. 130 (1942), p. 32) and the entry for PI 120498 in GRIN-Global, the database of the National Plant Germplasm System, as it stood on 27 October 2026. The inventory gives the collectors, their field number, the date and the market. GRIN-Global states that the lot "no longer exists and can not be requested", so the page gives the lot as gone. No conservation priority is assigned.
Identifier
The identifier NPG-TUR-KAH-0719360001 follows the wiki's seed-accession grammar: holder, ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 country, province segment, month, year, sequence. The department's own number for the lot is PI 120498.
NPGstands for the National Plant Germplasm System of the United States Department of Agriculture, whose database, GRIN-Global, carries the department's plant introductions.TURis the ISO code for Turkey.KAHstands for Kahramanmaraş Province.- Month
07: July, the month the seed was gathered. - Year 1936 is the year the seed was gathered.
0001is the lot's place, in plant-introduction order, among the holder's lots from the same country, province, month and year.
Classification
The seed was bought in a market. Neither source says where the plants that bore it were grown, so the accession is classified Unknown.
Collectors and donors
The inventory heads the consignment "Seeds collected by H. L. Westover and F. L. Wellman, Bureau of Plant Industry", and GRIN-Global lists both men, so both are given as collectors.
Location and georeferencing
The inventory's Marash is today's Kahramanmaraş. The coordinate is OpenStreetMap's point for the city (node 26480875), 37.58, 36.93. It marks the market town the source names, not a field. Basis: settlement point. Uncertainty: about 9 km, the city's built-up extent plus 1 km for the two-decimal form. The province is the one GRIN-Global gives; the locality keeps the inventory's spelling.
Dates
The collection date, 2 July 1936, is the day the seed was bought, as both sources give it. Both give 12 January 1937 as the date of receipt, the lot's received date.
