Discussion
Evidentiary scope
The accession rests on two sources: the department's printed inventory entry for plant introduction 117328 (Inventory No. 128 (1941), p. 12) and the entry for PI 117328 in GRIN-Global, the database of the National Plant Germplasm System, as it stood on 27 October 2026. The inventory gives the collectors, their field number, a name, the date and the market. GRIN-Global states that the lot "no longer exists and can not be requested", so the page gives the lot as gone. No conservation priority is assigned.
Identifier
The identifier NPG-TUR-ANK-0419360001 follows the wiki's seed-accession grammar: holder, ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 country, province segment, month, year, sequence. The department's own number for the lot is PI 117328.
NPGstands for the National Plant Germplasm System of the United States Department of Agriculture, whose database, GRIN-Global, carries the department's plant introductions.TURis the ISO code for Turkey.ANKstands for Ankara Province.- Month
04: April, the month the seed was gathered. - Year 1936 is the year the seed was gathered.
0001is the lot's place, in plant-introduction order, among the holder's lots from the same country, province, month and year.
Classification
The seed was bought in a market. Neither source says where the plants that bore it were grown, so the accession is classified Unknown.
Collectors and donors
The inventory heads the consignment "Seeds collected by H. L. Westover and F. L. Wellman, Bureau of Plant Industry", and GRIN-Global lists both men, so both are given as collectors.
Location and georeferencing
The coordinate is OpenStreetMap's point for the city of Ankara (node 25869410), 39.92, 32.85. It marks the market city the source names, not a field. Basis: settlement point. Uncertainty: about 15 km, the radius of the city's built-up area today, which is larger than the Ankara of 1936. The province is the one GRIN-Global gives.
Dates
The collection date, 15 April 1936, is the day the seed was bought, as both sources give it. GRIN-Global gives the date of receipt as 14 August 1936, which is used as the lot's received date. The printed inventory heads the consignment "Received July 10, 1936". The two dates are given here and neither is preferred on the page beyond the received-date field.
Name
The printed inventory gives the name of the sample in italics as Keudye; GRIN-Global transcribes it as Kendye. Neither source glosses it. It is not entered as a local name, because the two readings differ and nothing settles which was the word used at the market.
