Discussion
Evidentiary scope
The accession rests on two sources: the department's printed inventory entry for plant introduction 6322 (Inventory No. 10 (1905), p. 75) and the entry for PI 6322 in GRIN-Global, the database of the National Plant Germplasm System, as it stood on 27 October 2026. The inventory names the seed company and the name of the sort, and nothing more. GRIN-Global states that the lot "no longer exists and can not be requested", so the page gives the lot as gone. No conservation priority is assigned.
Identifier
The identifier NPG-JPN-UNK-0019010005 follows the wiki's seed-accession grammar: holder, ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 country, province segment, month, year, sequence. The department's own number for the lot is PI 6322.
NPGstands for the National Plant Germplasm System of the United States Department of Agriculture, whose database, GRIN-Global, carries the department's plant introductions.JPNis the ISO code for Japan.UNK: no province is recorded.- Month
00: the date the seed was gathered is not known. - Year 1901 is the year the department received the lot.
0005is the lot's place, in plant-introduction order, among the holder's lots from the same country, province, month and year.
Classification
The seed was bought from a seed company under the name Aidzu. Neither source says where this seed was grown or by whom, so the accession is classified Unknown.
Collectors and donors
GRIN-Global lists the Tokyo Plant, Seed, and Implement Company among its sources; the printed inventory gives the firm as the Tokyo Seed and Plant Company. No one is said to have gathered the seed, so the infobox gives no collector.
Location and georeferencing
Nothing below the country is named as the place the seed was grown. The sources name one place, the company's city, Tokyo, where the seed was sold, and the name Aidzu is not given as the place it was grown. The page has no point and the map is off.
Dates
The date the seed was gathered is not known, so the collection date is empty. Both sources give 20 April 1901 as the date of receipt, the lot's received date. The identifier therefore carries month 00 and the year of receipt, and the province segment UNK.
